SBANE names its top innovators

May 17, 2007

Seven Massachusetts technology companies have won top honors for business innovation from the Smaller Business Association of New England (SBANE).

The seven winners were selected from a field of 16 companies, which include two from New Hampshire. A total of 170 companies applied for the honor, said Robert Baker, SBANE president. This year's winners were selected from a group of companies with a revenue cap of $100 million, said Baker. The winning companies develop technologies in fields such as alternative energy, speech recognition and optics.

The winners are Acumentrics Inc., Westwood; Ahura Scientific Inc., Wilmington; Eliza Corp., Beverly; NeuroLogica Corp., Danvers; Volicon Inc., Burlington; and SupplyScape Corp. and LogMeln Inc., both based in Woburn.

"These are the companies that will grow our economy and hire our young people," said Baker. "We'll try to follow these folks and see where they go." In addition, SBANE honored Dan Smith, CEO of Tewksbury-based Raytheon Integrated Defense Systems, for his work to partner with small businesses.

The honorees were announced during SBANE's 2007 New England Innovation Awards, in its 21st year, at a ceremony last night. Last year's winner was Bedford-based Insulet Corp., which announced an initial public offering earlier this week.
