Real-Time Scans Now Available in OR During Neurosurgical and ENT Procedures
Westchester, IL (October 30, 2006) – BrainLAB AG, a global leader in image-guided medical technology, today announced the compatibility of BrainLAB Planning Software iPlan® with NeuroLogica’s CereTom, the first portable and cordless CT scanner. Importing images from the CereTom into BrainLAB networked surgical software solutions allows physicians to scan as needed during a procedure without relocating the patient. BrainLAB has performed successful importation of CT scan data obtained from the multi-slice scanner into the BrainLAB pre-surgical planning software, as well as its VectorVision® surgical navigation software packages.
The portability and compact size of the CereTom CT scanner and VectorVision systems make navigation for Neurosurgery and ENT procedures possible in facilities where this technology was not available before due to space constraints. This is particularly important for Intensive Care Units (ICU), where the pairing of the CereTom CT scanner and space-saving BrainLAB surgical navigation systems allow for procedures that in the past have required the transport of patients to the radiology department for imaging.
“We are constantly seeking opportunities to help surgeons streamline their work in the OR and improve patient outcomes,” said Paolo Jelmoni, Director of Marketing, Neurosurgery, BrainLAB. “The inclusion of Neurologica’s CereTom CT scanner into our treatment framework allows surgeons to access data and scan images in real-time in the operating room, supporting more effective procedures and enabling more successful recovery for patients.”
The combination of CereTom CT scanner with BrainLAB navigation provides a high quality, efficient solution for a wide variety of Neurosurgery and ENT procedures.

About BrainLAB
BrainLAB develops, manufactures and markets software-driven medical technology that enables procedures that are more precise, less invasive, and therefore less expensive than traditional treatments. Among the core products are image-guided systems that provide highly accurate real-time information used for navigation during surgical procedures. This utility has been further expanded to serve as a computer terminal for physicians to more effectively access and interpret diagnostic scans and other digital medical information for better informed decisions. BrainLAB solutions allow expansion from a single system to operating suites to digitally integrated hospitals covering all subspecialties from neurosurgery, orthopedics, ENT, CMF to spine & trauma and oncology. With more than 2,500 systems installed in over 65 countries, BrainLAB is a market leader in image-guided technology. The privately held BrainLAB group, founded in 1989, is headquartered in Munich, Germany and today employs around 900 people in 15 offices across Europe, Asia, Australia, North and South America.
